Monster Hunter Rise has seen a big surge in its playerbase following the release of the Sunbreak expansion last week. Peak player concurrency rose to an all-time high of 231,360 players on Steam this weekend from 134,262 players the day that it launched on the platform and a 24-hour peak average of around 20,000 players just days before the expansion’s release on June 30th.

Capcom reports in a recent press release that Sunbreak has sold over two million copies in less than a week. The base game itself is faring quite well at ten million copies sold since it first arrived on Nintendo Switch in March 2021. Although the studio notes that the game’s PC release played a big part in helping them hit those numbers.

The studio also revealed that the entire Monster Hunter franchise has sold over 84 million units to date. A big chunk of those sales came from Monster Hunter World which currently holds Capcom’s record for their biggest selling game at 21 million copies sold. That includes sales from the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition which comes with both the base game and its Iceborne expansion.

“Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities,” concluded the press release.
