MultiVersus has come back online after being pulled back into development at the end of its 11-month stint in open beta last year. The multi-franchise multiplayer fighting game has been rebuilt from the ground up and officially launched on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox at the top of the week as a UE5-powered game with full cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms.

The 2D platform brawler’s return also marked the start of its first season, dubbed Puns and Villainy, and the debut of new playable characters from the Warner Bros. multiverse, including The Joker, Agent Smith from Men in Black, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, and Banana Guard from Adventure Time.

Season 1 also introduced a new PvE mode called Rifts. “Rifts mode is a way for all players to jump into MultiVersus and progress their skills, outside of our competitive PVP modes,” says Player First Games. “Each Rift will have a sequence of battles or challenges around a particular theme, whether it’s The Joker infiltrating the Batcave or Batman and Velma teaming up to decide who’s the best detective.”

MultiVersus is free-to-play on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
