MultiVersus Adds Rick Sanchez, Combo Soft-Cap, & Tweaks Mastery XP Requirements

Rick and Morty’s Rick Sanchez has officially joined the MultiVersus roster as of the multi-franchise brawler’s newest mage character. Reindog also gets a bunch of new skins but the real kicker of the update is the surprise adjustment to the XP required to progress through character mastery levels 3 through 15.

Players have apparently been breezing through their mastery levels so fast that the developers decided to make things a bit more difficult. “We were finding that players could get to level 15 of the mastery track too quickly,” said the devs. “This is to help us make it a bit more of a journey.”

Unsurprisingly, the XP adjustments didn’t sit too well with the community, with many calling the move “unjustified” and a potential barrier for new players. But, as we’d come to expect from the general gaming community, complaints usually follow nerfs to XP gains and tempers will probably die down within a week or two.

Other significant changes to the game include switching Wonder Woman out for Shaggy as the free character awarded for completing the tutorial, a new Light Projectile classification for projectiles without knockback effects, and a soft-cap on infinite combos.

“We’ve implemented a new anti-infinite-combo system that will decay all subsequent attacks if the same attack has been used 4 or more times in the same true combo,” Player First explained. “The goal is to put a global soft-cap on infinite combos and make combos more creative. We hope the change pushes players to explore new and more exciting combo routes.”

Players have yet to complain about the combo soft-cap but they’ll probably get to that once they’ve finished grumbling about the XP nerf and scrolled down to that part of the patch notes.
