NCSoft Showcases Advanced In-House AI Technology In Project M’s First Trailer

NCSoft is making significant advancements in its backend tech and the studio is showing it off in a new trailer for its upcoming adventure game, Project M. The game itself is an exclusively single-player title but it’s worth covering due to the graphical and AI tech that the South Korean developer employed to bring it to life.

The

trailer stars a digital version of the studio’s CCO Taekjin Kim which made use of new AI technology developed by NCSoft, text-to-speech synthesis, and graphics powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine 5. With all the aforementioned systems working together, the team was able to create a virtual AI character whose mouth moves exactly with what he’s saying and speaks, moves, and acts like a real live human being does.

As for the game itself, it bears a strong similarity to other narrative action titles like Detroit: Become Human and The Dark Picture Anthology series of games. Players will regularly come upon quick-time events (QTE) and character choices that not only advances the storyline but also affects the ending of the game.

There’s no doubt that NCSoft will be using the same tech in future games and it’s interesting to see whether they’ll eventually use it in MMOs down the line.
