Neverwinter Devs Talk About Warlock And Fighter Changes Coming With The Undermountain Expansion

Significant class changes are coming to Neverwinter when the Undermountain Expansion rolls out this spring. Perfect World Entertainment already talked about their plans for Paladins and Clerics. A pair of dev blogs now gives fans an in-depth explanation of what’s in store for the Fighter and Warlock classes.

“With the release of Undermountain changes to healing and threat management will reinforce the importance of tanks and provide a new and improved tanking experience. The fighter’s core design will remain as unshakable as the fighter itself—a tough as nails, sword and board wielder who defends allies and crushes foes.”

Fighters, formerly known as Guardian Fighters, will have their blocking and shield mechanics revamped. “Not only will block provide a more noticeable effect,” says the devs. “Enemy damage has been rebalanced around the change and you can now more freely lower your guard to use your powers, without worrying about instantly taking lethal damage.” In addition, the Vanguard Paragon Path has been tweaked to focus on dealing more damage as a means of generating threat rather than taunting enemies.

As for Warlocks, these dark magic wielders will have the option to function as official healers in the game when Undermountain comes out.

“With the release of the next expansion various changes throughout the game will make healing more significant than ever. On live, Warlock unofficially has the ability to be a very strong group healer and with the release of Undermountain we are making one of the paragon paths officially a healer.”

The Warlock’s Soulweaver Paragon Path will allow them to heal themselves and their allies using Soul Essence gained by dealing damage to enemies. They will also have the ability to instantly restore their Soul Essence and health with the new Class Mechanic called Essence Drain. Warlocks will also be able to heal their team by draining their health with a new Daily called Soul Pact.

Of course, players can still choose the DPS route with the Hellbringer Paragon Path. “Utilizing the dark arts, Hellbringers can inflict damage through summoning demonic forces and cursing their enemies,” says PWE. “A warlock needn’t ever fight alone as they can still summon a Soul Puppet to join their battles.”
