New World: Aeternum’s Multi-Platform Launch Brings Cross-Play and Big Changes

New World: Aeternum is launching on October 15th, finally making the leap to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and giving console players a chance to jump into Amazon Games’ massively multiplayer world alongside PC veterans. But hold on to your warhammers—there are some key things to note in the upcoming multi-platform launch.

First up, cross-play is officially a thing, meaning you and your friends can team up regardless of platform (mostly). However, there’s a catch: characters are tied to the platform they’re created on. That means if you start your adventuring life on PS5, don’t expect to pick up that same character on your PC.

New servers will be divided into Standard and Legacy worlds. Fresh console servers will be Standard worlds, while the existing PC servers—both Standard and Fresh Start—will become Legacy servers. If you’ve got characters on Legacy servers, they won’t be able to transfer to the shiny new Standard worlds. You can move from Standard to Legacy though, but once you go Legacy, there’s no coming back.

Console players also get their own exclusive console-only servers, where you’ll only be matched with players on the same platform. So if you prefer the comfort of exclusively playing with other PS5 or Xbox warriors, you’ll have that option.

Gameplay-wise, New World: Aeternum is much more than just a port. It’s a significant overhaul of the original game, offering solo-friendly content and a major shift toward PvE-focused progression with new zones, enemies, and crafting mechanics, and a more narrative-driven experience. While PvP fans can still clash in massive battles, Aeternum provides a richer solo journey for players who prefer to tackle the wilderness alone.
