New World Players Struggle With Queues Following Rise Of The Angry Earth’s Launch

New World saw a big jump in its player count today following the release of its Rise of the Angry Earth expansion this morning. SteamDB shows a peak player concurrency of just over 50,000 players today, roughly twice the average player concurrency logged by the game over the past few months.

However, the sudden influx of players proved to be too much for the servers to handle, resulting in extremely long queues that was further compounded by frequent crashes when fast-traveling. Amazon promptly opened up a new European server to help reduce queue times in the region. The launch rush seems to have died down for the time being but it'll probably pick up again tomorrow, more so this weekend.

Rise of the Angry Earth is New World’s first-ever expansion since it launched two years ago and its first paid one. It introduced new story content, the long-awaited mount system, flail weapons, a new gear tier, the new Savage Divide expedition, the new Elysian Wilds zone (formerly known as First Light), and the revamped Edengrove and Great Cleave questlines. It also marked the start of Season 3 and bumped up the level cap to 65.

You can grab the expansion on Steam for $29.99 or as part of a $70 Elysian Edition which also includes the base game.
