Nexon Showcases 12 New Games in Development Including New Metaverse Platform "Mod"

Nexon unveiled details on 12 new games currently being developed at the company's studios in Seoul, South Korea. The game I found most interesting on this list is Project MOD which is Nexon's attempt at competing with Roblox with their own player made game platform. Check it out below alongside the other games Nexon is working on:

Project Magnum (PC + Console Looter Shooter):

Project Magnum is developed by Nat Games and will be a multi platform (PC+Console) looter shooter with RPG elements.

Project MOD (A Roblox like Metaverse platform focused on user made games / content):

넥슨 미디어 쇼케이스 소개 영상 [메이플스토리 월드]

Project MOD is the most interesting game on this list as its Nexon's first attempt at creating a metaverse. Buzzwords aside, Project Mod is a content-making platform where anyone will be able to create their own games, kind of how Roblox does it, though the Project Mod system seems to be more in-depth. Much of Nexon's own art-assets, like MapleStory's graphics will be available for use freely on Project Mod.

Mabinogi Mobile (Mobile version of the PC MMORPG Mabinogi):

새로운 판타지 세계로의 초대 [마비노기 모바일]

Mabinogi is coming to mobile with Mabinogi Mobile. Given the uniqueness of the PC MMORPG and its emphasis on non-combat elements, Mabinogi Mobile could offer something unique.

KartRider: Drift (PC and Console Kart Racing MMO):

멀티 플랫폼으로 즐기는 [카트라이더: 드리프트]

It's been over a year since the Kartrider: Drift beta in June, 2020, so it's good to see the game finally making progress.

Overkill (3D Dungeon Fighter Mobile Game):

Overkill is Nexon's attempt at a 3D Dungeon Fighter Online. The game is being developed in 3D form to 'overcome the limitations that could not be realized in 2D'. As Nexon's most profitable IP, Nexon likely has their best teams working on Overkill.

TalesweaverM (Mobile version of the PC MMORPG Tales Weaver):

원작 감성에 독창적인 게임성을 더한 [테일즈위버M]

The PC version, TalesWeaver, has been running continuously since 2013, making it over 18 years old. The game is popular in Japan and South Korea, but never succeeded in the West.

Project HP (PC PvP Melee Action Game):

This one looks like a mix of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare meets Rakion but is focused entirely on PvP battles. The game has over 30 players fighting in close quarters on a fantasy medieval battlefield. The pre-alpha test runs from August 5th to the 8th in South Korea.

Project ER (New PC MMORPG Based on a new IP with emphasis on PvP):

공성전의 대중화를 앞세운 신규 MMORPG [Project ER]

Not too much information is available about Project ER, but the characters in the trailer above remind me of Black Desert Online. The game promises '24 Hour Massive Wars in Real Time', which means guilds and players can fight for control over territory at any time. Project ER will also have a single mega server with a seamless open world.

Project SF2 (Character collecting Mobile RPG):

[Project SF2]

Project SF2 looks like Nexon's answer to Genshin Impact as it features gorgeous cartoony visuals. The game is aimed at a global market from the get-go, so expect a Western release around the same time as the Korean one. Unlike Genshin though, it looks like Project SF2 features turn based combat.

Keep in mind, all the games on this list are currently in active development. There's no release schedule for any of these games yet and they may not all launch globally. Though any game that does well in South Korea will likely launch worldwide, especially since Nexon has previously stated their goal of increasing revenues from Western markets.
