Nintendo Confirms Security Breach Earlier This Month, Over 160,000 Accounts Possibly Affected

nintendo switch hardware bannerOver the past few weeks, Nintendo has received numerous reports and complaints of accounts being hacked and unauthorized credit card use. The company responded with a statement saying that they were investigating the problem and advised account holders to enable two-step authentication in the meantime.

Nintendo confirmed today that there was indeed a massive security breach that possibly affected over 160,000 accounts earlier this month. According to Kotaku, the accounts that were affected were those with Nintendo Network ID logins. Nintendo has disabled the NNIDs and reset the affected accounts’ passwords. The company is also again reminding all users to turn on two-factor authentication to increase the security of their accounts.
