Jagex reveals their plans to breathe new life into Runecrafting in Old School RuneScape with the addition of the new Guardians of the Rift mini-game. The new mini-game will Runecraft skill training less of a chore by sending players on a tower defense-like mission to help the Great Guardian close the Abyssal Rift.

Players must protect the Great Guardian from Abyssal Creatures while also feeding it Imbued Essence to keep it charged at 100%. The Guardian will lose a charge every time it’s hit by an Abyssal Creature. Once the charge hits 0%, it’s game over. Successfully completing the Guardians of the Rift mini-game will reward players with catalytic and elemental energy points that can be exchanged for various rewards.

A release date has yet to be announced for the new mini-game. In the meantime, the devs continue to address issues with the recently-released Shattered Relics League, a.k.a. League 3.

“It’s been great seeing so many of you getting stuck into our third League, Shattered Relics! We’re seeing some seriously powerful Fragment and Set Effect combinations, and we’re glad you’re thoroughly enjoying the extra strategy involved this time. We’ve also seen feedback suggesting that the few restrictions in place are too limiting, and that the best Fragments and Set Effects take too long to obtain. We’d like to alleviate these concerns somewhat by rebalancing the Renown cost required to unlock new skills and bosses.”

Note that players who’ve already unlocked the said skills and bonuses will be refunded the difference. The team has also rebalanced several task requirements that aren’t “realistically achievable” during the time that Shattered League will be active.
