Overwatch's next animated short will highlight the morphing robot hero Bastion, in a sequence titled "The Last Bastion." The video will drop on August 18th at 9am PT as part of Gamescom, and will be posted to Blizzard's Gamescom site. Or, you could watch it at the Blizzard Main Stage if you're in Cologne, Germany.

"The Last Bastion" tells the origin story of the inquisitive transforming robot, Bastion. In this episode, we follow the forgotten battle automaton as it unexpectedly reactivates after laying dormant in the wilderness for over a decade. Fascinated by its unfamiliar surroundings, the curious omnic begins to investigate, but quickly discovers its core combat programming may have a different directive...

I'm sure many players were expecting a hero to be revealed at Gamescom, namely the rumored stealth hero Sombra. Though a new hero would seem a bit hasty after Ana released less than a month ago.

"The Last Bastion" will be Blizzard's fifth animated short for Overwatch, and I'm pretty excited to watch. Animated shorts are a great way to flesh out a character: provide some depth for why my team can't push Hanamura's second point thanks to the Bastion stationed by the back-right pillar.
