Palia Clarifies Open Beta Status After Launching On Steam Minus An Early Access Tag

Palia first launched into open beta on PC in August last year and has been making its way to other platforms ever since, including Nintendo Switch, and more recently on Steam. The Steam launch raised quite a few eyebrows, however, as the Steam page was missing the “Early Access” tag and reminder found on open beta titles on the platform.

The official site also fails to mention that the game is still in open beta. To be fair though, plenty of other games also follow the same practice, but not on Steam. The issue has led the community to accuse Palia developer Singularity 6 of misinformation, which the studio recently acknowledged with a statement confirming that the game is indeed still in open beta.

“We want to clear the air: since our Open Beta launch back in August 2023, the game remains as a title still in Open Beta,” Singularity 6 clarified on Discord. “Know that we’ll keep our players updated with as much information as possible as we approach what we consider to be our official launch.”

“We’re aware that there has been feedback regarding our messaging and status on various platforms, but the emphasis is that Palia is free-to-play and available for anyone to try,” the studio added. “It is a continuous, ongoing effort, and we are committed to providing patch updates with new content, improvements, and bug fixes well into the future.”

Meanwhile, Palia’s status on Steam remains unchanged, leading to mixed reviews as new players jump in to find an unexpectedly buggy and unfinished game. It’s free-to-play on all platforms if you want to check it out for yourself.
