Pearl Abyss announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding, or MOU, with Silicon Studio for "bilateral technical cooperation." What that means is that the two companies will be working together to research and develop new graphics technology, which later may be used in Black Desert Online, as well as Silicon Studio's post-processing software, YEBIS, which was used games such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls III.

Pearl Abyss CEO Kyoungin Jung had the following to say about the announcement.

Black Desert Online already boasts outstanding graphics, but with the cooperation of Silicon Studio, we will be able to elevate the game’s visuals to an even greater degree of fidelity.

Silicon Studio Lead Software Engineer Masaki Kawase also provided a statement.

Pearl Abyss is a very competent company. With their help, we will be able to bring out the full potential of YEBIS and foster a new generation of technology development.

It will be interesting to see what Black Desert Online looks like after any potential graphics upgrades that are introduced as a result of this cooperation. YEBIS is already "famed as being the best post-processing software for optical effects," so further advancements could leave the game looking rather stunning.
