PlanetSide 2 Is Slowing Down Its Content Releases To Focus On Polishing Existing Content

It’s been a busy couple of months over at Rogue Planet Games following the release of three major content updates. Now it’s time for the team to take a breather to allow them to focus on polishing and improving the boatload of content that was added to the sci-fi shooter, since the opening of the highly-awaited Oshur continent back in January.

According to Lead Designer Michael “Wrel” Henderson, they’ll be slowing down the update cadence for the game to make sure that they’re aren’t releasing new content too soon and then scrambling to fix it after, citing the newly-revamped Outfit Wars as an example.

“We pushed to get this update across the finish line so that this year's Roadmap was kept up with. In hindsight, that wasn't the right play.” Henderson said. “As bugs began to pile up, we should have made the call early on to postpone the event until we had room for a thorough test cycle. Most folks have real lives outside of this game, and organizing 48 players shouldn’t be something you need to do a few days (or a single day, in some extreme cases,) before the match. We apologize for the additional burden this placed on you all.”

“Through September, we’re going to take some time and reexamine what remains of the roadmap, see what needs to be cut, moved, or pivoted away from, and take our update cadence a bit slower through the end of the year,” he added.

Henderson acknowledged that the decision to reel back on the updates might impact player activity and satisfaction but maintained that it was ultimately the right decision to ensure the long-term health of the game, especially since player activity picks up during this time of the year.

“Given the increasing need for some cleanup, and that we’re moving into a traditionally high-populated time of the year, we should have a safer space to experiment with slowing down,” Henderson concluded.
