Another ABK-owned studio is currently in the process of forming a union, and this time it’s the whole studio and not just the QA department. Proletariat joins the QA workers of Raven Software and Blizzard Albany in unionizing under the Communication Workers Alliance banner. The studio is best known for its fantasy battle royale game Spellbreak and was acquired by Activision Blizzard back in June to assist in the development of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.

The Proletariat Workers Alliance will work to ensure that its members are given fair wages and overtime pay, remote work options, and flexible paid time offs, and that diverse and non-discriminatory hiring practices are followed.

“We are game developers of varied skill sets and backgrounds brought together through a shared commitment to our organization’s great mission,” the PWA wrote. “We aim to be a beloved game studio with a diverse team, doing our best work and creating innovative experiences at the frontier of game development. We are unionizing to protect this mission and to set the studio up for success as we enter Proletariat’s next chapter joining forces with ABK.”

In light of Activision Blizzard’s efforts to delay the unionizing efforts of their fellow developers, the PWA intends to ask management to formally and voluntarily recognize the formation of the union and bargain in good faith. “Proletariat has always valued collaboration through mutual dignity, respect, and trust,” added the PWA. “We will embody these values while working with leadership, enabling us to do our best work and innovate what a game studio can be for its fans and employees.”
