Psyonix Isn't Happy About Real Money Betting In Rocket League

Betting website Unikrn recently added Rocket League to their roster of eSports titles where users can place bets, and Psyonix is not happy. VP of Publishing Jeremy Dunham told Gamespot "Psyonix is not affiliated with Unikrn, nor do we support or endorse online betting for our game."

Unikrn is not an illegal service. The Australian government approved Unkirn's request to add Rocket League to their list of acceptable real-money gambling games. And Australia is one of just two countries that allow real-money betting through Unkirn. The other being the UK.

Gamespot received an update from Unikrn after publishing their report, in which the website's CEO said "We are not in any way associated with the publishers of Rocket League. However, we love the game, and like other titles on our sportsbook, we create odds and content on the pro matches and their top tier tournaments."

Whether or not Psyonix likes people placing bets over their game is largely inconsequential. Gambling is not going away, and while Unikrn allows real-money betting legally there are plenty of websites that also allow people to do so illegally. If lots of money is being wagered it is a testament to the success of Rocket League and it's entertainment value as an eSport.

In other news, Rocket League's next competitive season began today, bringing with it the new game mode Dropshot.
