PUBG has seen a big surge in its playerbase following its free-to-play release as PUBG: Battlegrounds earlier this year. According to parent company Krafton’s earnings report for the first half of 2022, the popular battle royale shooter gained over 80,000 players per day since it went free-to-play in January. The game’s average revenue per user has also increased by 20% in Q2 2022 compared to the previous fiscal quarter.

Krafton’s total revenue for the first half of 2022 is also up by nearly 3% at $739.5 million with over 75% coming from mobile games, including PUBG Mobile and its other PUBG mobile game, New State Mobile. Revenue for the second quarter of 2022, however, has dropped by nearly 8% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the company is preparing to share more information on its upcoming games at Gamescom 2022 later this month. Fans can expect the official reveal of the company’s new Unknown Worlds IP along with more information on Striking Distance Studios’ next-gen survival horror game The Callisto Protocol that’s scheduled to launch on December 2nd.

Krafton has also started work on an unannounced game based on the popular Korean fantasy series of novels, The Bird That Drinks Tears. The game is being developed with world-renowned concept artist Ian McCaig as its design director.
