PUBG Hits 400m Total Players, 227m Monthly Active Users, and 87m Daily Active (Counting Mobile)

Bluehole announced today that their hit battle royale game Playerunknown's Battlegrounds hit an epic milestone this week: 400 million total players. The data is broken down as such:

  • 400 million total players
  • 227 million monthly active users
  • 87 million daily active users

While Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has been steadily bleeding users (down 50% since January, 2018) on the PC, the game has been booming on mobile thanks to its huge success globally (and thanks to its availability in China). The figures above include players from both PC and mobile, with the vast majority of active users coming from mobile. While the numbers seem quite unbelievable at first glance, given the game's availability on mobile devices in China, it's definitely plausible.

To put these numbers into context - Fortnite released statistics last month claiming "over 40 million monthly active users". Keep in mind though that Fortnite's active playerbase only counts PC and Console while PUBG counts mobile as well. There's no doubt Fortnite is much more popular on the PC and actually more popular than PUBG on Mobile in Western markets on iOS, but it isn't yet available on Android (launching this Summer); it's also not available in China on either Android or iOS. Fortnite also announced this last week that they have 125 million total players worldwide, but I suspect that number will explode higher once the game launches in China and on Android.
