Realistic Multiplayer FPS 'World War 3' Goes Free to Play After Beginning its Open Beta

The online multiplayer tactical FPS 'World War 3' went free to play earlier this week on Steam after having been in paid closed beta since October 2018. The free to play launch marks the game's transition to open beta. With the free to play transition the game's playerbase has jumped from a daily peak of 450 to 11,600+. With the increased playerbase comes typical launch woes; the game currently has 'mostly negative' reviews on Steam due to in game queues and a buggy game launcher.

World War 3 bills itself as a "realistic" FPS set against a modern backdrop in a global conflict. It features real world locations like Berlin, Warsaw, and Moscow as well as tanks and weapons from every major world power. The game supports up to 40 players in either 20 vs 20 large scale combat or a faster paced 20 player 10 vs 10 Team Deathmatch.

WW3 aims to offer a highly authentic tactical experience evocative of real warfare while still being accessible, which the developer refers to as Playable Realism. The game features weapons closely modeled on the real weapons in use by real militaries around the world. Realistic gameplay features like ballistics, physics, and full body awareness combine to create a truly authentic and immersive modern combat experience. Additionally, players engage in team-based skirmishes in maps in highly realistic maps.
