Vampires in Bethesda’s upcoming co-op shooter Redfall, aren’t your run of the mill bloodsuckers. They have powerful psychic abilities that allowed them to push back the water surrounding the tiny island town and block out the sun, ensuring that they can feast on the island’s residents at any time of the day.

It’s those powers that makes getting rid of them all that much harder. Crosses, holy water, and wooden stakes just aren’t going to cut it. Luckily, you and your vampire hunter friends will have an arsenal of customizable modern weaponry to help you defeat the vampire menace and their cultist followers, from improvised firearms to military-grade hardware. All you have to do is find them.

“With the vampires and their cultist followers running amok, you’ll need to get creative and use everything at your disposal to stay alive. But between your chosen hero’s unique abilities and the customizable weapons and gear scattered across the island, you’ll have everything you need to take back Redfall.”

On the subject of abilities, you’ll be able to improve them individually by allocating skill points earned by completing story mission and side missions. Skill points can also be used to improve your character’s attributes such as health recovery and increase the amount of items you can carry with you, including ammunition and lockpicks.

“There have been several challenges with making this game, but one is how we take our love of systemic gameplay and the various ways to upgrade your character and apply that to co-op,” says Art Director Karen Segars. “Being able to use your powers and tools in interesting combinations and then layering those with other players with different powers and tools makes for even more fun and unexpected ways to approach the world of Redfall.”

This will allow players to form a diverse lineup even when using the same character. Weapons will also come in unique varieties with random weapon traits, offering a virtually endless number of weapon combinations and ways to complete a mission.

“Some of the weapons you’ll find on Redfall will be literally cobbled together with… whatever the remaining citizens of the island had around,” says Bethesda. “Think Mom and Pop’s old family hunting rifle, but with some duct-taped enhancements. But that doesn’t mean they’re any less efficient when it comes to dusting bloodsuckers.”

“Of course, as you assemble your arsenal of weapons, you’ll start to notice distinctly a more militaristic edge to some of them,” adds the studio. “But what is military equipment doing on the island? Yet another mystery for you to solve as you explore.”

Redfall will be launching exclusively on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2023 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
