Riot Games’ long and arduous journey toward resolving allegations of a toxic work culture has come to a close. Following a $100 million settlement that was reached in 2021 and approved by a court in 2022, a court filing by Rust Consulting has revealed that 1,548 women and contractors will receive compensation. The company was accused of fostering a sexist and abusive work environment in 2018, which later led to an employee walkout and executive punishment.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, the beneficiaries will receive initial payments ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, with the possibility of earning up to $40,000 depending on their tenure and employment status. While the vast majority of employees are content with the resolution, seven women opted out of the settlement.

It’s a bittersweet victory for those involved, but at least it offers some degree of closure. The good news is that Riot Games looks like its learned from its mistakes and has been taking steps to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace culture.
