RuneScape Reworks Infamous PvP Area and Makes Wilderness Region Opt-In PvP Only (RS3)

RuneScape launched a massive rework of its open PvP zone, the Wilderness, today which made PvP combat optional with an opt-in system. It's by default off. The entire region has also been revamped with a focus on PvE with the aim of making the area more approachable. Keep in mind, these changes are for Runescape 3 only, not OSRS.

While most players will welcome this change, it's an end of an era in some ways. The Wilderness used to strike fear in the hearts of many casual players and most never ventured deep into it for fear of getting PK'd. Those days are over. At least in Runescape 3.

On the flip side, since most players never ventured into the Wilderness, it was a bit of a development deadzone. Making the Wilderness a whole new PvE focused zone will improve the experience for the vast majority of players.
