The first South African MMORPG, Destiny of Ancient Kingdoms, has released through Steam today as a free-to-play title. You will still have to make an account through the game's site to play.

If you've ever played an MMORPG you'll be familiar with the game's mechanics: choose a class between two factions, collect quests and slay mobs, level up for more skills; players can join guilds, or teams and fight it out in the arena.

Obtain rare equipment by destroying antagonizers in powerful PVP battles that will satisfy your need for an enthralling combat experience, because every attack feels viciously visceral, requires consideration and looks spectacular on your screen. -Steam Page Description

Destiny of Ancient Kingdoms does feature a few interesting aspects: players can become Kings of their Kingdom and reward players, or be impeached if they're not a benevolent dictator (not exactly a true monarchy).

Sean's Take: At only 2GB DoAK isn't pushing boundaries, with crude graphics and traditional theme-park progression. But it works, and it's neat to see other nations develop MMORPGs. Though it seems they lifted their website from traditional Chinese browser game sites. I imagine the game will do well with players who have older computers, or live locally in South Africa. Though I don't know much about lag issues when it comes to other games in the region.
