Steam Hits Record-Breaking 25M Concurrent Users Over The Weekend

steam logo white bg bannerSteam has broken its own record for the highest number of concurrent users over the weekend. Online users peaked at 25,418,674 on January 3rd surpassing all-time highs set in March last year at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Steam usually sees a surge in user concurrency during their annual Winter Sale. The global pandemic along with the recent release of Cyberpunk 2077 also played a big part in boosting user numbers and helping Steam break their previous record.

The concurrency numbers account for all users logged-in to the platform regardless of whether they were playing a game, chatting, or merely idling. According to SteamDB, only around 7.2 million users were actually playing a game when Steam set the new record.
