The Evangelion cast will be making their way to Tower of Fantasy in the next few months, not as a limited-time collaboration event, but as a complete chapter in the anime MMORPG’s storyline. The crossover chapter, dubbed Evangelion Fantasy, won’t be arriving until spring or summer, but Level Infinite is happy to share some details on what’s to come.

Evangelion Fantasy will introduce an all-new adventure in Vera as the anime series’ massive Angels launch an assault on the sector. To thwart the invasion, players will join forces with Shinji Ikari, Asuka Shikinami Langley, and Rei Ayanami in a narrative that ties in with both the game’s ongoing story arc while also offering faithful reproductions of various scenes from the original anime.

Players will also get the chance to pull Asuka and Rei simulacrums, go on adventures with the iconic penguin pet Pen Pen, and get to see the EVA-00, EVA-01, EVA-02 units in scale. Whether you’ll get to pilot them though is still unclear.

“In our quest for authenticity, we recreated the captivating visuals of the original anime,” said Hotta Studio lead designer Sky Wang. “Whether it’s the colossal Angels or the EVA units, we’ve replicated them on a 1:1 scale. Our aim is for players to truly feel the impact of these giant EVAs when they make their grand entrances in the story.”

In addition to sharing a few details about the upcoming Evangelion crossover, Wang also offered a preview of Tower of Fantasy’s next major update – Version 3.6: Beyond Horizons. The update launches on January 30th will send players off to the mountainous region of Aquaville with the folded high-tech city of Distant Beacon Cabin 8 at its core.

“Cabin 8 features a unique gravity system, with a special road known as the gravity rail connecting various areas scattered across the inner walls,” he teased. “Progressing along the gravity rail will provide you with a thrilling map-running experience of spinning in the air.”

The update will also introduce a new simulacrum character named Plotti and her special weapon, the EP-7000 Skyfire. Like previously released characters, Plottie will tie in with Beyond Horizon’s narrative as an inter-dimensional hacker with a rebellious side. “Hailing from the Hykros headquarters, Algorithm Ark, Plotti serves as the rotating Authorizer, a hacker responsible for maintaining Gesthos and monitoring the operation of Omnium reactors across different time and space dimensions.”

Wang also teased the upcoming release of physical copies for the game which will come bundled with an exclusive collection of in-game items and premium currency. More information is promised at a later date.
