The cross platform mobile & PC anime action MMO Tower of Fantasy launched on August 10th worldwide in English and has had an incredibly strong launch so far. The game's servers are packed and the game is the #11th highest grossing mobile game on iOS according to Data.ai (between Aug 11-13). Downloads wise, Tower of Fantasy has fluctuated between the #1 and #3 spot as the most downloaded mobile game since its launch. Much of this early popularity though can be attributed to heavy marketing spend. The game's ads are plastered everywhere and they've paid a lot of streamers to check the game out.

I've had a chance to play Tower of Fantasy for a bit (only level 25 at the moment) and while its very similar to Genshin Impact (which is definitely a good thing), the game does differentiate itself with a much greater emphasis on multiplayer content. It's much more of an MMO than Genshin. The combat is also fast paced and fun. Still, it's far from perfect. It isn't nearly as polished as Genshin Impact and has terrible voice acting, but these alone aren't deal breakers.

This new generation of mobile MMOs from Asia are a massive upgrade from the auto-play nonsense like Lineage 2: Revolution. Those auto-play mobile MMOs simply didn't click with me and while I still don't see myself playing a game like Tower of Fantasy hardcore, I did find myself having fun with it. So much so that I'm actually logging in regularly to do my dailies. If the future of mobile MMOs begins to look more like Tower of Fantasy and Genshin Impact, mobile MMOs have a bright future ahead.
