The unveiling of Tribes 3: Rivals earlier this month has fans of the classic sci-fi shooter series excited but also a little bit concerned about its monetization model, particularly since it was a big problem in Tribes: Ascend. Hi-Rez Studios’ Prophecy Games, however, was quick to assure the community that they won’t be making the same mistake again.

“We made some mistakes in how we monetized Ascend in the past, and have learned from them,” the studio told PCGamer.

Tribes 3 will have a box price of $20 which will include access to the entire game including all weapons, abilities, and perks, with absolutely no paywalls. That’s not saying that Tribes 3 won’t have mictrotransactions, as the studio will still be selling cosmetic items like skins, emotes, and voice packs, some of which can alternatively be obtained from just playing the game.

The game is set to launch sometime next year and will include both casual and ranked matches as well as support for custom modes, 64-player matches, and user-generated content. The team will also be introducing vehicles at some point in the future.

In the meantime, you can check out gameplay footage from the ongoing alpha test in the montage trailer below.
