Tyto Online Wants To Teach You About Ecology

Immersed Games is aiming to do something different with Tyto Online. Rather than provide a stereotypical MMORPG experience, the company hopes to help players learn middle and high school level science through an engaging online gaming experience. In going with its previous game, Tyto Ecology, the current focus is on ecology, but the goal is to expand into many other fields in the future.

The game world is one in which the Earth is uninhabitable. You play as an evacuee who is beginning life on the planet Ovo and studying at Tyto Academy.

The game went live on Steam Early Access yesterday. Immersed Games wants to provide an emergent sandbox where players can learn different scientific concepts, but at present, it contains a mere three hours or so of gameplay content, in addition to several Biodomes and customizable apartments. Features that may be added in the future include a player-run economy that helps teach players about entrepreneurship and the ability to create your own Biodome in a manner that is similar to Tyto Ecology.

Should you be interested in supporting Tyto Online, it is available now on Steam Early Access for $24.99, temporarily discounted to $19.99 for the week of release. At launch, the game will require a monthly fee to play. Everyone that buys into Early Access will be given three months of subscription time at launch.
