After being delayed for a few months, the much-awaited Valheim Hearth & Home update is now live in the Early Access Viking sandbox MMO.

“Focusing on enhancing the core base building and survival mechanics of the critically-acclaimed hardcore co-op survival game, the Hearth & Home update gives players even more tools to create the longhouse of their dreams and cook up a feast fit for an Aesir.”

The massive update adds a whole bunch of new content, including new building items, new decorations, a new food system, improved cooking, and a few weapon tweaks to top the whole thing off. In addition to the aforementioned content, developer Iron Gate also has a dark surprise waiting for all Viking survivors.

“While many features introduced in Hearth & Home have already been revealed by the development team on Steam and social media, not even Odin has spied some of the new features being added with the update, including something dark and mysterious that seems to spread across the plains. Brave vikings should go and find out for themselves!”

As for the new building items, players now have access to Darkwood and Stone pieces, including intricately-designed Darkwood beams and poles, Darkwood roof types, and a stone throne to rule their Viking settlements from. Unwanted items can also now be destroyed using the aptly-named Obliterator, a craftable Viking-style garbage disposal station. Yes, you’ll have to craft an item in order to destroy other items.

The full patch notes can be found on the Valheim Steam page, if you’re up for a little light reading.
