Valheim developer Iron Gate Studio is back with more news about the upcoming Ashlands biome after the Viking survival game’s highly-awaited Xbox launch earlier this month. In their latest dev blog, continues to tease what’s in store for players when the new biome finally opens its doors (whenever that may be) with new screenshots and the promise of what seems to be a new instance called “Fortress Time!”.

“You’re already used to going dungeon delving, but this time we’re testing out the concept of ‘Fortress time!’. Exactly what that will entail, well… you might be able to guess!” teases Iron Gate.

Meanwhile, the team continues to work on graphical assets for Ashlands while they flesh out the gameplay loop for the volcanic biome and put the final touches on the Hildir’s Quest update, which also doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to arrive prior to Ashlands’ release, presumably in late 2023 or early 2024.

“[Hildir] has a few things in common with her brother Haldor, like for example that you will be able to find her where she has stopped with her wagon and lox,” revealed the devs. “But why does her camp look so empty?”

“Hildir’s camp is not the only new location that will be featured in that update, however. Particularly helpful vikings – or very lucky explorers – will be able to find a few other new and mysterious places scattered across the world. We’ll let you find out what secrets they hold by yourself, but we advise that you prepare yourself before venturing forth!”

The update will also introduce new quality-of-life features such as the ability to move items into and out of chests in stacks and an option to toggle manual snapping when building for more precise placement.

Valheim is currently on sale at 30% off as part of Steam’s annual Spring Sale if you still haven’t picked up a copy of the hit multiplayer survival game.
