War Thunder Updates To Dagor Engine 4.0, Complete With NVIDIA Gameworks

Gaijin Entertainment sent out a short notice today that War Thunder will be updating its engine to the Dagor Engine 4.0. This new engine, as the notice puts it, "dramatically improves the graphics and creates destructible environment technology." It does this through the use of NVIDIA's proprietary game libraries, GameWorks and WaveWorks. You may remember GameWorks as the library that brought on accusations like this one following the poor performance of The Witcher 3 and Watch_Dogs on AMD cards.

Dagor Engine 4.0 & NVIDIA Gameworks: New Technologies

It is important to note that we won't know how this update will affect AMD users until it releases. They note in the blog post about the update that they "are proud that the NVIDIA Gameworks technologies in War Thunder will be available for all users, even those with low-end computers whatever platform they are operating on." Given the size of their audience, it would make sense that they would focus on optimization for low-end computers.

As for the "destructible environment technology," GameWorks will allow the team to introduce larger destructible objects. Examples given are wall fragments, ruins, and even entire buildings. This will help create a more dynamic battle environment as players will be able to destroy other players' cover.
