Digital Extremes has announced a new multiplayer game called Wayfinder which is being developed by Airship Syndicate. Digital Extremes is the game's publisher and is best known as the studio behind the popular sci-fi shooter Warframe while Airship Syndicate’s portfolio includes Ruined King: A League of Legends Story which it released in cooperation with Riot Games.

For Wayfinder, Digital Extremes has settled on a medieval fantasy theme featuring a combination of art styles from World of Warcraft and WildStar, with a bit of Overwatch thrown in for good measure. The game is described as a character-based online action RPG featuring multiple playable classes, each with their own unique storylines, abilities, and play styles.

“Players will use their Gloom Dagger to adventure into Lost Zones – dungeon-like areas touched and consumed by the Gloom – resulting in shifting change and chaos,” reads the official press release. “Wayfinders can control the chaos with their Gloom Dagger, an ancient artifact of obscure origin, strategically implementing mutators that can dictate enemies encountered, items and resources dropped, and more. Wayfinders attempting to control this chaos will find the Gloom pushing back – implementing its own augmentations and modifiers to enemy damage, environmental hazards, and more where no two play sessions are the same.”

The maximum size for these Lost Zone adventures is currently capped at three players although this could very well change in the future as the developers test out different party sizes to find out what works best. The game will also feature MMO elements such as a persistent world where you can meet other players to team up with while out exploring in its vast open world.

Beta signups are now live on the Wayfinder official site ahead of the start of closed beta testing on PC on December 13th. Early access launch is scheduled for spring 2023 on PC and PlayStation and is expected to arrive in other platforms by fall of the same year. The game will be free-to-play in line with Digital Extreme’s commitment to free and fair monetization.
