Women’s Rights Lawyer Genie Harrison Takes Over Riot Games Discrimination Lawsuit

riot games hqIt seems that the Riot Games discrimination lawsuit is far from over as the plaintiffs Gabriela Downie, Melanie McCracken, and Jessica Negron back down from their $10 million settlement agreement with Riot and hires women’s rights and sexual harassment attorney Genie Harrison as their new legal counsel along with employment lawyer Joseph Lovretovich. Genie Harrison is known for handling some of the biggest #MeToo cases including the one against Harvey Weinstein and his studio.

The class action suit was filed against Riot Games last year for alleged sexual harassment and discrimination within the studio. The parties involved eventually came to a $10 million settlement agreement in August 2019. But before a judge could approve the settlement, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) and Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) filed objections claiming that the amount was inadequate and that the members of the suit were entitled to over $400 million.

Harrison and Lovretovich have now taken over the case and have employed the help of expert statisticians to come up with a more suitable amount. “Our well-qualified statisticians are already analyzing pay data,” Harrison told GamesIndustry.biz. “We intend to recover the compensation due to the women of Riot Games and achieve institutional reform, in order to level the playing field for women.”
