World of Warcraft: The War Within will not only kick off a brand-new story arc, but it will also be adding several new features to the long-running MMORPG. For the first-time in 20 years, Blizzard will be introducing a story mode for raids which will allow solo players and smaller groups to follow the expansion’s lore and storyline without all the fuss normally surrounding the game’s raids, starting with the expansion’s first raid – Nerub-ar Palace.

“We’ve been working on a new raid experience for The War Within called Story difficulty,” Blizzard revealed. “With Story difficulty in Nerub-ar Palace, our goal is to offer players a way to see the epic conclusion of Azj-Kahet’s story who may not see the end to that story otherwise. This difficulty is intended for a private party of one to five players and will allow players to face off against Queen Ansurek without the assistance of other players or Followers.”

As such, raids in story mode will be significantly easier to clear than normal ones and can also be repeated at any time. Presumably, it will also help players prepare to clear the raid in normal difficulty but it’s still unclear whether bosses will drop any loot or rewards upon completion.

The War Within is expected to launch late this summer or early fall. Stay tuned for more information about the expansion as they come out.
