Worlds Adrift Closed Beta Delayed "A Few Weeks"

Any sort of definitive release dates of any kind for Worlds Adrift have felt at times like they were adrift in the sky like a ship that had lost its engines and sails, but you may remember that Bossa Studios had previously announced that a "very limited" paid Closed Beta would begin sometime this month. Unfortunately, that target will not be met. The game's Closed Beta is being delayed "a few weeks" to ensure that it is a quality experience from the very beginning.

Bossa Studios' own Luke Williams explains the delay as follows.

As a result of all of the valuable feedback we've been getting and there's a few important features that aren't quite done yet, we've decided to delay the game.

One of the main reasons for the delay was just to make sure that the Closed Beta was as good of an experience as possible. Alpha 6 really did highlight quite a lot of shortcomings and we weren't happy to release with any of those really bad issues still in there.

Some of the features that are still being worked on include the following.

  • Character customization - players will be able to name their characters, as well as pick a hair style, a hair color, and "various other customization options."
  • World map improvements - Williams explained that "you'll start finding a lot larger islands, a lot more of them, in a much bigger space. [...] It'll be less dense."
  • Ship frame salvaging - rather than have unusable ship frames litter the land, some of which may include those that you didn't plan out quite as well as you thought you did, you will be able to salvage ship frames and get some of the resources you spent on them back.
  • The "Belt" - you can put items in your inventory on your "belt"; items placed on your belt will not be lost on death. Before, only equipped items were kept on death. Now, you can save anything you want. One of the primary reasons for this change is that players were unable to keep valuable resources like ammo on death, thus leading to being unable to defend themselves and their ships when they respawned.
  • Various anti-griefing measures.
