WoW Private Server Nostralrius Celebrates First Year Anniversary

The now massively popular Vanilla WoW progression server Nostalruis Begins celebrated its first year anniversary last Sunday. Launched on February 28th 2015, Nostralruis has become the most popular World of Warcraft private server in service. The server launched with 4k-5k concurrent players and never stopped growing. Just last month the server hit 13.1k concurrent players during peak time.

What makes Nostralruis remarkable is both its fidelity to the vanilla era (slow experience gain), and the professionalism of the staff and volunteer team. The server feels like a legit service rather than a hobby run in some kid's basement. The official forum post includes an interesting infographic which is well worth scrolling through. Some highlights include:

  • 730,000 - Accounts created
  • 130,000 - Active accounts
  • 13,100 - Players online (peak)
  • 10 Days, 17 Hours, 23 Min - Avg time to hit level 60
  • 95,368 - Daily items in the auction house
  • 38,377 Bans issued

What makes the success of Nostralruis even sweeter is the fact that Blizzard has treated player requests for progression servers with such utter disrespect. I still think Activision Blizzard will bow eventually. EverQuest relented years ago with official classic and progression servers launching from time to time.

You think you do, but you don't...
