Beta Testing For Wrath Of The Lich King Classic Has Officially Begun

Northrend is now unofficially open as Blizzard Entertainment begins beta testing Wrath of the Lich King Classic in preparation for its launch later this year.

The beta test currently caps player levels at 76 and will focus on putting various systems and content through its paces. These include questing, progression, dungeons, the Death Knight starting experience, and the Northrend zones.

Players will also get to test out new features coming in the expansion, including vehicles, quest phasing, Glyphs and Inscription, and the new and improved Group Finder which will replace the Dungeon Finder feature that was first released in the original Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

The team plans to raise the level cap to 80, enable flying in Northrend, and open level 80 Heroic dungeons over the next few weeks. Addon usage is also restricted for now but will be allowed a bit later into beta testing.

Alongside the beta launch, Blizzard also published a new dev blog explaining its design philosophy for any changes that might be coming to World of Warcraft Classic, specifically Wrath of the Lich King. “Each time we consider a change to the Wrath of the Lich King experience, we will keep these pillars in mind,” said the studio. “If the change doesn’t serve them, then we won’t make it. But, if the change can strengthen those pillars, we will carefully consider it.”
