Baldur’s Gate 3 Unveils New Serial Killer Origin Character, New Races, And Bear Love

Earlier this week, Larian Studios hosted a live release showcase for Baldur’s Gate 3 where they dropped several big and unexpected announcements. During the Panel from Hell showcase, the team offered attendees and online viewers their first look at the dragonborn, half-orcs, and monks, along with gameplay footage of a max level character.

One of the biggest reveals during the showcase is a surprise addition to the Origins customization system, a pre-made character ominously known as The Dark Urge. If you’ve been playing the “Blood in Baldur’s Gate” murder mystery prequel game, The Dark Urge has been revealed as the serial killer that you and the rest of the community have been trying to track down.

Unlike other pre-made characters, The Dark Urge will be fully customizable right down to the character’s gender, race, and class. The one thing that will be constant in all Dark Urge characters is the desire to commit brutal acts and murder indiscriminately, which you can either embrace or fight. Remember though that all your actions and decisions will affect your entire gameplay experience.

“You’ll begin Baldur’s Gate 3 with your memory lost after an unfortunate encounter between a parasitic tadpole and your brain. Now all that’s left is an insatiable urge – an urge that makes itself known in your subconscious, through your deepest thoughts and in your dialogue options,” Larian teased.’

Larian also showed off the character customization system, which offers a wide range of options to help you create a truly unique toon. These include body type and age sliders, tattoos and piercings, and a heterochromia option, among others.

The game will also feature a romance system that will let players err… romance their companions and party members, with a promise that no two relationships will follow the same formula. You can also apparently hit on a Druid in bear form as Lead Writer Adam Smith not-so-subtly suggested.

“Have you ever considered the joys and pleasures of sexual congress with a wildshaped Druid?” Smith asked. “Because at Larian, we have, and ultimately landed on the side of giving the people what they want: tender, consensual romance with a man temporarily transformed into a grizzly bear.”

All in all, it looks like Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to be one of the biggest releases this year. With new races and classes on offer, as well as necromancers, serial killers, and bear romance, what more can you ask for?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to launch on August 3rd on PC and on September 6th on PlayStation 5. In the meantime, you can watch the Panel From Hell showcase in its entirety right down below.
