BioWare GM Says Anthem Is Sci-Fantasy Not Sci-Fi

anthem flight groupBioWare’s open-world sci-fi MMO, Anthem, has been the talk of the town since the game was first announced at this year’s E3. Of note is Mass Effect 1 and 2 Lead Writer Drew Karpshyn’s confirmation that he is indeed working on the title and EA Executive Producer Patrick Söderlund’s revelation of a 10-year program for the upcoming shooter.

BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn also talks about the game in a recent interview with CBC:

“[Anthem’s] story is that you are part of humanity and you’re a member of a group called The Freelancers who are out there to protect and save humanity on an alien planet far away. It’s in a genre we call science-fantasy, very much like Star Wars, very much like the Marvel Universe, where you see a lot of amazing things happening, but we don’t worry too much about why they’re happening, or how they’re happening, the science of it.

Mass Effect is more our real hardcore science fiction IP. This one is much more about just having fun in a game world that is lush and exotic and really sucks you in.”

“Ever since I’ve had two sons, I’ve always wanted a game I can play with them, and this is my chance to build [it],” Flynn said when asked about the inspiration for the game. “This represents a chance for a lot of us to build that game we can play with our families.”

Anthem is scheduled to come out in Fall 2018. In the meantime, you can hype yourself up with game’s awesome reveal trailer after the break.
