BioWare Scraps All Multiplayer Content In The Next Dragon Age Game

Following BioWare’s announcement that they will be ceasing development on Anthem Next, the studio now reveals that they will be doing away with the planned multiplayer content for the next Dragon Age game. According to Bloomberg, Electronic Arts executives have given BioWare the green light to remove multiplayer from the upcoming game to focus on what the studio is known for, single-player RPGs.

Sources say that the game was initially designed with a strong focus on multiplayer but has shifted to a single-player game in recent months due to the failure of Anthem, another multiplayer game from BioWare. EA’s decision was also influenced by the success of the single-player game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which in contrast to Anthem’s disappointing performance, exceeded the publisher’s expectations.

It’s still unclear whether the next Dragon Age game will offer microtransactions, as is the case in many EA games. Dragon Age fans are possibly also looking at paid DLCs given CEO Andrew Wilson’s focus on selling games-as-a-service.
