Blizzard Opening Its First eSports "Stadium" In Taipei

Blizzard is opening their first eSports "stadium" on March 30th, in Taipei City, Taiwan, according to Yahoo eSports (which you will have to translate to read). I put "stadium" in vexatious quotes because I've never seen a stadium with folding chairs—as seen below; maybe it's a translation issue.

CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Mike Morhaime will be in the flesh at the launching event. This event could be a huge marker for Blizzard as they continue the push into eSports, an industry which has put dollar signs in the eyes of many companies. Perhaps, one day international bouts will be held in Taipei.

And before someone asks, "why Taiwan?" Let me respond "Why not Taiwan?" Korea already has an established eSports industry, not run by Blizzard. And operating costs in Taiwan are likely cheaper. Taipei may even become seen as neutral ground where the larger Southeast Asian countries come to test their might. (Sorry, did I just make a political statement?)

Maybe we'll even see a match of StarCraft Remastered soon at Blizzard Stadium.
