Block N Load Goes Free-To-Play

The Jagex-published, class-based voxel FPS, Block N Load, officially went free-to-play today. Rather than just moving to free-to-play, however, the team has completely overhauled the game's core systems to match the new business model. A new daily challenge system presents challenges that reward players with gold bars, the new in-game currency. A perks system provides players with the opportunity to "play how they want" through deeper hero customization. There are currently 55 perks, each unlocked using gold bars.

All heroes and perks can be purchased using in-game currency. The premium currency can be used to unlock heroes faster or to buy skins and XP/Gold gain boosters. It's a very similar business model to that of most MOBAs. The team have stated that they are "very firmly against pay-to-win" and it shows.

Players that previously purchased the full game will start with Tony, Sarge, OP, Eliza, Nigel, Cog, Sweet, Astarella, and Genie. They will also be given each skin that they potentially could have unlocked. This means that seasonal and promotional skins are not included.
