Bungie Responds To Destiny 2 Launch Day Banning Incident, Unbans Players ‘Banned In Error’

destiny 2 cayde moonRemember that banning spree that Destiny 2 went on during their PC launch? A large number of players were reportedly permabanned for using overlay programs like Discord, Twitch, Fraps, XSPLIT, and even GeForce Experience. PC Project Lead David Shaw later denied the reports on Twitter saying that it was “internet BS.”

Bungie later released a statement that they had indeed banned 400 players and that it was done manually saying that, “Destiny 2 cannot automatically ban you, only Bungie can ban a player after a manual investigation.” Bungie also supported Shaw’s statement and denied banning players who used “overlays or performance tools.” They have, however, unbanned 4 players who were banned during the PC beta.

The studio has also since reviewed the bans and have overturned the bans on another group of players. “As part of our ban review process, we have identified a group of players who were banned in error,” says Bungie. “Those players have been unbanned. The bans were not related to the third-party applications listed above. We will continue to review the process we use to ensure a fun and fair game.”
