CD Projekt Red Says They’re Reconsidering The Promised Cyberpunk 2077 Online Multiplayer Mode

cyberpunk 2077 bar crowd bannerIt looks like we won’t be getting the promised Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode, or at least not the one we’ve been expecting. CD Projekt Red President and Co-CEO Adam Kicinski, however, revealed during yesterday’s

update video that they’re now reconsidering the project.

A standalone online game was originally planned for release in 2022. It would have been the next project in the studio’s pipeline if they hadn’t messed up the single-player game’s release.

“Previously, we hinted that our next AAA would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this now,” Kicinski said. “Given our new more systemic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day.”

He also revealed that they’re currently working on creating new online technology that will allow them to develop multiplayer modes alongside the core single-player game.

“CD Projekt Red makes single-player story-driven AAA RPGs – that is not changing,” maintained Kicinski. “What is changing is our long-term approach to online. “And by this, we mean ensuring we are properly prepared to implement online elements in our games where they make sense. We don’t want to go overboard or lose our single-player DNA. We want to take thoughtful steps to build robust online capabilities.”

You’ll find the full strategy update video below where Kicinski talks about their plans for the company’s growth in the coming years.
