I've been fairly skeptical of Chronicles of Elyria for some time now. While the game sounds great on paper, very little evidence of steady progress has been revealed over time. The team at Soulbound Studios is aware of this, though, stating "we made it clear from the beginning that we wouldn't launch a Kickstarter campaign until we'd not only consumed all of our own resources, but also showed enough game-play footage and assets that we felt we'd earned your support." Today, they have revealed the first gameplay footage of Chronicles of Elyria.

The video gives us a look at several environments, basic character animations, and the game's cloth physics. However, very little functionality is seen. Most of the video involves the character running around. A small part is dedicated to showing off combat animations, but the character never partakes in combat.

With the unveiling of the First Look, it was announced that Chronicles of Elyria would be hitting Kickstarter on May 3rd. As Jeromy Walsh put it, "where once the development of Chronicles of Elyria was free, today it clocks in at over $40k a month, and the team is nowhere near complete." Their Kickstarter goal will be $900,000.
