As if Chronicles of Elyria’s development hasn’t been controversial enough, Soulbound Studios has decided to once again postpone the release of the long-delayed MMORPG and its city management sim Kingdoms of Elyria.

Studio founder Jeromy Walsh cites Baldur’s Gate 3 as the inspiration for the delay, saying that he doesn’t want to rush the launch and wants to polish the games before they’re release “While pushing for a release this year was already looking unlikely, I have come to recognize that rushing the launch wouldn’t be in the best interest of the players or the studio,” he announced.

The delay is also in line with a deal between Soulbound Studios and an unrevealed mobile MMO development studio to license the former’s game engine. Walsh says that the deal will provide the studio with the financial freedom to develop both games at a more relaxed pace. Unfortunately, he failed to mention whether any of those funds will be used to refund Kickstarter backers who’ve given up on the game.

As for when the games will come out, that’s still up in the air. “While I can’t provide an exact timeline for how long the Alpha and Beta tests will last, I’m still planning to launch the Alpha test by the end of the year,” Walsh said.
