Dauntless Previews Behemoth Looting And Crafting Mechanics

dauntless behemothThere’s more to acquiring gear in Dauntless than simply exterminating monsters and praying to the gaming gods that something good drops from your kill. In the upcoming ARPG, the armor you wear, and the weapons you wield shows off just how skilled a monster-slayer you are. Developer Phoenix Labs explains:

“It’s the bitter irony of the Shattered Isles that aether, the very thing keeping the islands afloat, also gives rise to the behemoths. It’s your charge as a slayer to harness aether and use it to slay the behemoths threatening our world. And from these humble beginnings, you’ll build a deadly arsenal using the power of the behemoths themselves. The smiths of Ramsgate are famous for using parts from behemoths when creating weapons and armour. Giant fangs, hard scales, thick fur, and more are all incorporated into their craft. Slayers looking to gather these materials target specific areas of behemoths during the hunt.”

The preview also introduces readers to premium boosts that will allow them to get more materials from slain behemoths. Players can purchase two kinds of boosts from the in-game store: Champion and Patron; both of which increase the amount of materials you receive after a kill. The Champion boost is the way to go if you plan to hunt solo, but if you’re rolling with a group, the Patron boost is your best bet.
