Dauntless Reaches 1.1 Million Players And Is Hard At Work To Accommodate More Players

dauntless slayersThe Dauntless Open Beta launch last week was a huge success for Phoenix Labs. According the studio’s Twitter post, more than 1.1 million players have joined the game since launch day. The successful launch, however, turned out to be a double-edged sword. The massive influx of players over the weekend resulted in ridiculously long queue times which later led to problems with matchmaking. The problem has since been resolved and servers are now stable.

“Thank you for your patience this weekend. After some long nights and about 40 gallons of coffee, we are proud to announce that Dauntless matchmaking and servers are stable! At this moment, we are at "zero queue", a record-setting number of active players, and all Slayers are in the Shattered Isles. From everyone at Phoenix Labs: thank you for your patience and support.”

Phoenix Labs also has some reminders for their rapidly growing playerbase.

  • While the queue is empty now, it may fill up again. The queue exists to regulate the speed and volume at which Slayers are admitted into the game. If there is a massive increase in the number of people attempting to log in, we may have to queue them in order to ensure that the game continues to run smoothly for everyone.
  • We have made substantial improvements to matchmaking. This means that moving between Ramsgate and the islands is now faster and more reliable.
  • You may see a “QueenBee” error while queued. Do not worry and do not close your patcher. It will not impact your queue and will eventually resolve on its own.

The devs are continually working to accommodate the flood of players and are already hard at work on an improved matchmaking system. “As we move forward into Monday and beyond, we will continue to improve our services and fix bugs,” says the team. “As we’ve said many times before: We want Dauntless to be a live service for years to come. Already the team is hard at work on a large-scale matchmaking overhaul that will help Dauntless accommodate even more players.”
