Dauntless Sheds Some Light On Beta Dates, Steam, And Monster Hunter Rivalry In Reddit AMA Session

dauntless hammer fallDauntless developer, Phoenix Labs recently held an AMA session on Reddit which covered topics from beta dates and weapons to their thoughts on Monster Hunter World.

Here’s what we got from Reddit:

  • Aside from the Founders Closed Beta which starts on September 1st, there are no set dates for future Beta tests. “The best we can do for you on Open beta is Q4 <3,” says the devs.
  • “We don't have any plans to be on Steam at this time.” Nuff said.
  • More weapons will be added in the future including ranged weapons and “something else.” A ranged weapon is currently in development and that, “Hammer will be getting love :D.”
  • A Tank class may or may not be added. According to the devs, “Tank type class is an interesting idea -- it's important to us that combat is visceral and makes Slayers really get their hands dirty. So we'll see!”
  • Leaderboards, Parties, and Matchmaking, are in the works. Guilds will most likely be added in the future. “We are definitely looking froward to supporting guilds and know they will be an integral part of the community. More details at a later date.”
  • Questions about custom flares, player housing, and a replay feature where answered with “maybe something for the future.”
  • Phoenix Labs will stand by their F2P business model. “We want to bring Dauntless to as many people as we can and to hold ourselves to a high standard for keeping the game vital and operational for years to come. And F2P is the best way to do that!” In addition, the team says that,” We are firmly against pay to win and are not planning to allow the purchasing of materials. We are currently mainly focused on cosmetics.”

Phoenix Labs also addressed the proverbial “white elephant” in the room. It's no secret that we're big Monster Hunter fans ourselves so it's great to see a new game coming,” says the team. “We're seeing a huge number of players from other genres and games crossing over — just goes to show: There's always room for good games!”
