Any minute now, Divergence Online will go on sale on the Steam Store via Early Access. The sci-fi sandbox MMORPG has been through three crowdfunding campaigns and eight years of development—the last year of which development was manned by a mere two person team—but it is finally almost here. As soon as Valve flips the switch, that is. According to lead developer Ethan Ash Casner, the process could take "anywhere from a few hours to a few days."

The Steam Early Access build will represent a state in which "the core systems are finally in place," but require polish. Combat was the latest addition, having made it into the game on December 11th. In the future, they are looking to make "Star Wars Galaxies 2.0" with all of Pre-CU's 40+ professions—plus three of their own and—Star Wars Galaxies' surveying, harvesting, and crafting systems. Eight playable species, open PvP with limited permadeath, and a building system that boasts 4x the resolution of Minecraft's round out some of the more advanced features.

When the game launches, it will be available here. It will cost $40, discounted to $30 during its launch week.
